So I’ve been slacking lately, but for very good reason. In a matter of a month (actually a little less than that) I accepted a new job, put in my two-weeks notice (which happened to actually be one week), packed up and moved from Maryland the Texas. So, needless to say, it’s been a stressful few weeks and I hadn’t had time to buy much let alone blog about it.
But I’m back.
Since I’ve been in my new home, I’ve been doing some exploring and the first thing to do of course was to find where the closest Sephora and Ulta stores were located. I stopped in both recently and picked up a few things I’d been wanting to try. I haven’t been purchasing a lot of makeup lately because I am on this skin kick. Working on the canvas then finding those staple makeup products that I will continue to faithfully use. I have however been buying lots of lippies, mainly because fall is coming so I need some bright and deep reds and also because I’ve been on this nude and muted lip kick so I’ve been stocking up.
This may be a bit long, so without further ado, let’s talk about what I got!
I stopped by Sephora first and purchased two Sephora brand masks – the Shea lip mask and the Charcoal nose strip. Since I’ve been wearing lipstick more and more these days, I’ve been needing to exfoliate my lips more often to keep them prepped and prime for my lippies. I’ve been searching for a good lip mask and have yet to find one that I’m willing to spend the money to test. This particular lip mask happened to only be $3 so, if it isn’t great, I won’t lose much. I chose this particular mask because it’s made with Shea Butter and if you know anything about Shea Butter, you know it’s extra moisturizing, exactly what I need for my lips.
While I don’t have black heads on my nose, I’ve been kind of riding the charcoal mask train lately, so I wanted to give this a try and see if it pulls out any of the unwanted gunk from of my nose that I didn’t know was there.
The next thing I picked up was the Sephora Favorite’s Give Me Some Bold Lip lip kit. This is the perfect time of the year to buy lip kits from Sephora because they already have all of their holiday sets out and you can get a kit with 3-6 mini lippies in it from anywhere between $22-$34. Not bad right?
I decided to get this kit after swatching the Nudestix Magnetic Matte Lip Color in Vino and the Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche in Liqourice.
Oh. My. Gosh!
I had to stop typing to swatch these!
Talk about the perfect Fall shades!
I wasn’t too fond of the other lip colors in this kit, which I’ll list below for you to check out. I never wear pink unless it’s on the nude spectrum, the red lip in this kit is pretty standard and I’m not too fond of the brown Tarte lip paint, but I’ll give it a try and maybe I’ll change my mind.
(From L to R)
- Tarte quick dry matte lip paint in Wannabe
- Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in K-Dub (available on my Poshmark)
- Nudestix Magnetic Matte Lip Color in Vino
- Too Faced Peach Kiss Moisture Matte Long-Wear in Drunk Dial (available on my Poshmark)
- bareMinerals Statement Matte Liquid Lipcolor in VIP
- Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche in Liqourice
The other two items I got from Sephora weren’t purchases, but were free with my VIB points. I picked up the NARS Powermatte Lip Pigment in Star Woman which is a very bold red and the Tata Harper Resurfacing Mask, which I’ve heard nothing but good things about.
While in Ulta, I picked up two masks from The Body Shop, which if you’ve been reading you know I LOVE masks from The Body Shop! I picked up the Himalayan Charcoal Mask which I’ve used several times before and love, and I decided to try something new and got the Japanese Matcha Tea Pollution Clearing Mask. I used the Japanese Matcha Tea mask last night and wasn’t exactly impressed. The texture of the mask is like a moisturizer and it’s laced with these tiny beads for exfoliation. When you first apply it tingles a bit which didn’t bother me but it dried down really fast on my chin while other parts of my face just felt like I slapped moisturizer on. Overall, I’m glad I tried this because I needed to exfoliate but I don’t see myself purchasing this again.
Because I am obsessed with sheet masks and have been seeing how disgusting my pores have been looking lately, I decided to get the I’m Real Pore Care Red Wine Sheet Mask. Ulta like Sephora has its holiday kits and products out right now, and this mask is a part of Tony Moly’s holiday collection.
I love polishing my own nails, and since I’m starting a new job in a more corporate setting, I wanted to get something that was neutral yet still cute on my hands, so I picked up Sally Hansen’s Insta-Dri in NUDE-TRAL. It’s the perfect basic nude that can be worn for any occasion and looks really good on darker skin tones.
So I know this post is getting really long but there’s more! The next day I decided to go back to Sephora and picked up a few more items.
I picked up Origins Drink-Up Intense Overnight Mask, Caudalie’s Beauty Elixir, and the NudeStix limited edition Intense Matte Lip+Cheek mini set.
I’m a big fan of the Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask, and I’ve been wanting to try some other masks from the brand for some time. I used this mask last night and I have to say, I like! This morning my skin was so bright and felt very moisturized. I like to sleep with the fan and air conditioning on, and now that I live in hella hot Texas, both are necessary so I’m going to need a little extra moisture at night to keep my skin from drying completely out.
This will for sure be a regular in my nighttime routine.
The Caudalie Beauty Elixir is a product I’ve been looking at for some time now as well. I was on the fence about purchasing it because I thought it was too expensive and overhyped, BUT I saw someone use this as both a base and setting spray on YouTube and the makeup was flawless so I said I’ll give it a try. I used this last night before using the overnight mask and this morning before using my regular moisturizer (Grapeseed Oil) and both times it left my skin GLOWING! I really love how refreshing it feels and the minty scent isn’t too bad either.
Because I love a nude lip, I had to go back and try to find the perfect nude lip kit to compliment the bold lip kit I purchased the day prior.
This NudeStix kit is perfect for an everyday nude lip and has shades on different ends of the nude pink spectrum.
Shades from Top to Bottom
I think I’m going to get a lot of use out of Belle and Purity, but Pixi is a bit too ashy for my skin tone. I may end up giving this one away or selling it on my Poshmark.
So there you have it, a mini haul! I am going to try to be more consistent with posting especially because I have some ideas for future posts already lined up. In the meantime, comment below and tell me some of your favorite Fall lippies and skin care products!
