Editor’s Note: My Jade roller looks frosty because I freeze it before use.
OK… so I finally bought a Jade roller, and it has not only changed my skin but has really helped with my anxiety as well.
I believe it was last year or even 2017 when there was major hype around Jade rolling. I mean everyone and their mom had bought a Jade roller and was raving about how it improved their skin, but I just couldn’t buy into the hype. I mean how could using this little rolling thing really clear your skin or even out your skin tone? It just didn’t make sense because all those AHAs and oils, and serums are supposed to do that, right?
According to The Everygirl, “Jade Rolling has been used for centuries in ancient Chinese medicine. The gemstone has been used to draw out negative energy and balance your ‘chi.’ Naturally cool and smooth, jade was used on Chinese royalty to retain good spirits. Interestingly, Jade Rolling has some incredible benefits that have been proven by scientific research”.
Some of those scientific benefits include:
- Stimulating lymphatic drainage
- Improving blood flow
- Increase collagen production
- Decreasing eye puffiness
- Increasing penetration of skin care products
- Reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkle
Personally, I use my jade roller as the last step in my nighttime skincare routine. I cleanse, (use acids if applicable on that day), tone, moisturize, apply my oil then jade roll. I’ve noticed a difference in the way my skin looks in the morning, because jade rolling really allows my skincare products to penetrate my skin deeper and do the work! Jade rolling as also really been a gratifying step for me, and I think that’s due to to the fact that I jade roll in bed. When I’m ready for bed, I’m ready, so it’s best that I do this in bed to remember to do it at all. This has really helped me relax at night before bed and has helped reduce any bouts of anxiety I have. Sometimes at night, my anxiety shoots through the roof because I’m thinking about all the things I have to do the next day, and that’s not good. This has become a healthy distraction, sort of like skincare meditation.
Adding this step to both my skincare and SELF care routines has really changed my life.
I bought my jade roller from Amazon, but you can literally find them anywhere these days. I really recommend it, especially if you feel like your skincare products are just sitting on top of your skin and not really working. Also, if you deal with anxiety like me, maybe you’ll find some mental health benefits as I have!
Also, I’ll be honest. I didn’t pull out my jade roller until I saw Diddy’s Esthetician jade rolling his face on Instagram (a life I’d love to live, ok!).. so shoutout to Diddy for the inspiration, I guess lol!
